Granny Liu's First Visit to the Rong Mansion

Winter is coming and there is no money in the house. Granny Liu (Liú Lǎolao) is old and poor and lives with her daughter's family on a small farm, and this year everything has run short at once. Somebody has to do something.

There is one thread to pull. Two generations back her son-in-law's people claimed a connection to the Jia family — a household so rich and so grand that the connection was never worth mentioning, and is now the only asset anyone under her roof owns.

So she washes, puts on her best clothes, takes her small grandson by the hand, and walks to the side gate of the greatest mansion in the capital to ask for help from people who have never heard of her.
