How it works

You learned your first language by understanding things, not by memorizing rules. Tsukigo works the same way: stories you can almost understand, each a little harder than the last.

Stories at your level

Each story uses mostly words you know, plus a few new ones, with audio to listen along to.

Always a step ahead

What comes next is pitched just past what you already know, so you keep moving up while the words you know keep coming back.

No dictionary needed

Tap any word for its meaning. Meanings and readings can also show only on the words you're still learning.

How to use Tsukigo

Follow your recommendations

Tsukigo suggests what to read next based on the words you already know. Each story you finish moves you forward and makes the next suggestions better.

Listen first, then read

When a story has audio, listen once before you read, then read to fill in what you missed.

Set meanings and readings to your level

Word meanings can be Off, Always, or Adaptive, which shows them only on the words you're still learning. Readings work the same way: pinyin for Chinese, furigana for Japanese. Lean on them early and turn them down as you improve.
