On her deathbed, the mother leaves Vasilisa a little doll and tells her to feed it and obey it. When the stepmother sends the girl to Baba Yaga for fire, the doll turns out to be her only protection. One of the most beautiful Russian folk tales, in Afanasyev's collection.
