The Elephant

The girl Nadya is sick, and no doctors can help: she wants nothing at all. Finally she says she'd like to see an elephant — a real, big one — and her father decides there will be an elephant. A kind story by Kuprin about what a father is willing to do for a single wish of his daughter's.
