You Forgot May
The teacher points at the calendar on the wall.
“The first month is January,” she says. “It is cold. My birthday is in January.”
“The second month is February,” she says. “It is short.”
“In April, the rain comes. In June, the sun is warm. We play outside.”
“In August, we have no school. In December, the year ends.”
A child puts up her hand. “Teacher, when is my birthday?”
The teacher smiles. “I don't know. When is it?”
“In May!” the child says. “You forgot May!”
“You are right,” the teacher says. “May is for you.”
