The Two Small Wheels
Isla had a red bike with two small wheels on the back. On Saturday her dad took them off.
They walked to the park on Ocean Avenue. The path was long, with a big tree in the middle.
“I hope I don’t fall,” Isla said.
“I’m holding the back of your bike,” her dad said. “I’ve got you.”
Isla started. She rode past two benches. Then the bike went down, and she sat in the grass.
“Again,” she said.
She started again. This time she rode past the big tree. Then she sat in the grass again.
“That’s good,” her dad said. “One more time.”
The third time, Isla didn’t stop. The path went on and on.
“Dad!” she shouted. “You can let go now!”
She looked back. Her dad was far away, by the big tree.
“I let go at the tree,” he called. “You’re free. Go!”
