The Cheaper Flight
The trip to Lisbon was two nights, and the office gave them two hundred euros each for travel.
Farah opened the airline page on her laptop. “The Tuesday flight is a hundred and ninety. Two seats.”
Callum leaned over from the next desk. “Don't book it. I found a better one. Ninety-nine.”
“Ninety-nine?” She looked at his screen. “Which airline?”
“Does it matter? It's ninety-nine.”
Farah read the page slowly. “It lands at one in the morning.”
“So we'll sleep on the plane.”
“The hotel is forty minutes from that airport. A taxi at one in the morning will cost about seventy euros.” She opened a second window. “And we'll need the room from Monday night, not Tuesday. That's another sixty.”
Callum was quiet for a moment. “Shall I look at the Tuesday flight again?”
“Please.”
He typed. “A hundred and ninety.”
“And it lands at four in the afternoon,” Farah said. “We'll be at the hotel before dinner.”
“Fine. Book the expensive one.” He closed his laptop. “But I did find the cheaper flight.”
“You did,” Farah said. “It's a great deal. It's just not a deal for us.”
