Four Things for My Nest
I’m a robin. I’m building a nest in the apple tree behind the yellow house.
The first twig is under the tree. I take it and I fly back. That’s one.
The second twig is by the gate. I fly a little further. That’s two.
The third twig is on the wall. I fly further again. That’s three.
Now I want soft things too. I look under the tree. I don’t see any.
Then I see it. There’s a small piece of red wool on the step of the yellow house.
I fly down. The old woman on the step doesn’t move. She watches me flying back with it.
My nest is warm now. And every day there’s new wool on the step. The old woman puts it there for me.
