The Whole Pool
Hana was afraid of the water. Every Tuesday evening she went to the swimming class, and every Tuesday she stayed near the wall.
“Just move your body,” the coach said. “Don’t think.” “Relax.”
The first time, Hana sank. The second time, she swam two metres and stopped. The third time, she did not stop.
On a cold Tuesday in early March, Hana swam the whole pool. The coach gave her a small medal.
“You’re a swimmer now,” the coach said.
Hana held the medal. Her body was tired, but she felt light. She did not feel afraid.
