The Midnight Bus
The last bus came at midnight. Sami waited at the cold stop, alone.
He could see his breath in the air. The bus was late tonight, and he was tired.
At last, the bus came. The driver looked tired too.
“Long day?” Sami asked.
“Until midnight, every night,” the driver said. “Then home, then back tomorrow.”
Sami sat near the front. The streets were quiet and dark.
“You could sleep,” the driver said. “I'll wake you at your stop.”
So Sami slept, just a little. The driver woke him right on time.
“Goodnight,” Sami said. “And thank you.”
“See you tomorrow, maybe,” the driver said, and drove on into the dark.
