One Hundred Years
Today is a big day. Rosa is one hundred years old.
“How old are you, Great-Grandma?” asks the little boy.
“I am one hundred,” says Rosa.
“One hundred? That is so old!”
“Yes. That is a whole century,” says Rosa.
“What is a century?”
“A century is one hundred years.”
“When is your birthday?”
“My birthday is in August. I was born in August, a long, long time ago.”
“Were there cars then?”
“Some cars. But my family had a horse.”
The boy looks at her with big eyes.
“Great-Grandma, I want to be one hundred too!”
Rosa laughs.
“Then eat your vegetables,” she says.
