Different Ways to Say Welcome
All around the world, people welcome each other in different ways. The manner is not the same, but the idea is.
In Japan, people often bow when they meet. A small bow is polite, and it shows respect. In many parts of Europe, friends kiss on the cheek instead, sometimes two times, sometimes three.
Gifts have their own rules. In China, people usually give and take a gift with both hands, never just one. It is a sign of care. In some countries, you should not open a gift in front of the person who gave it. In others, you always open it right away, so they can see you are happy.
Colors matter too. In many Western countries, white is a color for weddings. In some Asian cultures, white is more for sad days, so people choose red or gold for a happy gift.
These small customs are part of every culture and every community. The actions change from country to country. But the message is always the same: you are welcome here.
