Two Roads Home
A tortoise and a rabbit want to go home. But there are two roads.
“Let’s take the short road,” says the rabbit. “It goes over the hill. It’s quick.”
“No, no,” says the tortoise. “The short road goes up. It is hard for me. The long road is flat. The flat road is better.”
“But the hill is faster!”
“Faster for you. Not for me.”
So they decide. The rabbit takes the short road. The tortoise takes the long road. They plan to meet at home.
The rabbit runs up the hill. The hill is long and hard. The rabbit stops. The rabbit is tired. The rabbit sits down between two big rocks and rests.
The tortoise walks slowly on the flat road. Step, step, step. The tortoise does not stop.
When the tortoise gets home, the rabbit is not there yet.
“Quick road?” says the tortoise. “Maybe next time you take the flat one.”
