Same Sky
(The parking lot behind the Safeway on Alberta Street, ten minutes after the sun went down.)
Idris: Look at mine. Look at that orange. That's a real orange.
Charlotte: It's okay.
Idris: Okay? Your phone makes the sky look gray.
Charlotte: My phone makes the sky look like the sky. Yours turns everything up. Nothing is that orange.
Idris: It's called contrast. Contrast is why I paid for this brand.
Charlotte: You paid for the name.
Idris: I paid for better pictures.
(Charlotte holds out her phone.)
Charlotte: Fine. Look at this one.
Idris: …Okay. That one's good. The black trees, and the pink behind them. That's actually really good.
Charlotte: Mm-hm.
Idris: So your cheap phone did that.
Charlotte: No. Your phone did that. Mine died at the river, so I borrowed yours for ten minutes.
Idris: Then that's my picture.
Charlotte: It's your phone. It's my picture.
Idris: Same thing.
Charlotte: Sure. And your fancy contrast? I turned it off.
