One Extra Thing
(The night before a school trip. Freddie is packing his bag.)
Constance: Freddie, the trip is only two days. Why do you have ten shirts?
Freddie: I need a few extra shirts.
Constance: A few? That’s ten!
Freddie: And each shirt needs one hat.
Constance: Ten hats? For two days?
Freddie: A little rain, a little sun. I must be ready.
Constance: You have one small bag. Take one shirt for each day. Two shirts. One hat.
Freddie: Two shirts and one hat? That’s not enough!
Constance: It’s a school trip, Freddie. Not a year in space.
Freddie: Fine. One extra thing. Just one.
(Freddie puts thirty socks in the bag.)
