Key Skills
(Tuesday evening at the community center on King Street. Bridget and Soren stop at the board by the door.)
Soren: What’s that, a party?
Bridget: Job fair. Saturday the eighteenth, ten to four. Free entry.
Soren: Free entry to a room full of desks. Amazing.
Bridget: There’s a general introduction at ten, and then you talk to the companies.
Soren: Which companies?
Bridget: The county, two nursing homes, a food company, and the airport.
Soren: The airport? Doing what?
Bridget: It says general work.
Soren: General work. That’s every job I’ve ever had.
Bridget: It also says bring your résumé and your key skills.
Soren: Key skills. Nobody says key skills. Who talks like that?
Bridget: HR people.
Soren: Right. So what are my key skills? I can carry two boxes of paper up the stairs without falling over.
Bridget: Put it on the résumé.
Soren: I will.
(Bridget takes a photo of the board with her phone.)
Soren: Hold on. You’re going?
Bridget: It’s free and it’s a Saturday. I’m just looking.
Soren: At what? We’ve got jobs.
Bridget: We’ve got this job.
(Soren looks at the board for a long moment.)
Soren: Send me that photo.
