A Ticket to the Sea
Sofia wants to travel to the sea. She walks all morning around London, and now her feet hurt. At Victoria Station, she stops at the ticket window.
“I want to go to Brighton, please,” she says. “How much is the train?”
The clerk looks at his screen. “First class is forty pounds.” “Second class is half of that.” “Twenty pounds.”
Sofia is tired, but she does not want to spend a lot. “Second class, please,” she says. “I want to sit and rest.”
“Good choice,” the clerk says. He gives her the ticket. “The ride is one hour.” “The next train leaves at twelve.”
Sofia smiles. “Thank you.” “The sea is waiting for us.”
The clerk laughs. “Us?”
“Me and my tired feet,” Sofia says.
