The New Student
(It’s Suki’s first day at a new school. She sits at a table and says nothing.)
Pablo: Hi! Is this your first day?
Suki: Yes.
Pablo: I’m Pablo. And you?
Suki: Suki.
Pablo: Hi, Suki. How old are you?
Suki: I’m eight.
Pablo: Eight? Me too!
(Suki opens her bag. There is a book in it, but there isn’t a pen.)
Pablo: Here. This pen is for you. It’s blue.
Suki: Thank you.
Pablo: Do you like this school?
Suki: I don’t know. It’s very big, and there are many children. I don’t have friends here.
Pablo: You have one friend now.
Suki: Who?
Pablo: Me!
