Forty Years Late
Brian is eighty-one. One Monday morning, he walks into Leeds Central Library with an old blue book and puts it on the returns desk.
The librarian opens the book and looks at the date stamp inside. It says 3 June 1986.
“Sir, this book is forty years late!” she says.
“I know. I’m sorry,” Brian says.
She turns the book over and reads the front: “Learn Italian in Seven Days.” Then she looks at Brian. “Forty years? Can I ask why?”
Brian smiles. “Well, the book says seven days. It took me a little longer.”
