A Better Mistake
(Rosa’s on Pine Street. Junko and Tomás eat here every weekend.)
Junko: The fish for me, please.
Tomás: And the chicken for me.
Waiter: Sure. No problem.
(The waiter brings two plates of rice.)
Junko: This is rice. We don’t want rice.
Waiter: Sorry! One minute.
(He takes the rice away. He comes back with two bowls of soup.)
Tomás: Now it’s soup.
Waiter: I’m very sorry. It’s a terrible day.
Junko: Wait. Mmm. This soup is good.
Tomás: Is it better than the fish?
Junko: It’s better than the fish.
Tomás: Then it isn’t a mistake. It’s a special meal.
Junko: Next weekend we can order the soup.
Waiter: And next weekend I can make the same mistake.
