Where Is the Rabbit?
It was bedtime, and the small girl could not find her toy rabbit.
“Where is it?” she asked. “Is it inside the house or outside?”
“Let's look inside first,” her mother said. “Is it inside the toy box?”
The girl opened the box. “No. It's not in here.”
“Is it under this bed?” her mother asked.
“No, not here.”
“Is it somewhere in the kitchen?”
“No. I looked there.”
They looked everywhere inside the house. The rabbit was not anywhere.
“Maybe it's outside,” her mother said. “Did you leave it in the garden?”
They went outside. The night was cool and quiet. And there, by the door, sitting all by itself in the moonlight, was the little rabbit.
“It came outside by itself!” the girl said.
Her mother smiled. “Rabbits like the garden. Now bring it inside, and let's go to sleep.”
The girl held the rabbit close. “Goodnight, rabbit. Don't go outside by yourself again.”
