Two Ways to Say Come Over
Imagine you are planning a party. How do you invite people? It depends on who they are.
For a close friend, keep it simple. You can just send a text: “Hey, come over Saturday! Pizza and movies at my place.” That is an informal invitation. It is short, warm, and easy.
But what if you are inviting your boss, or a teacher, or someone you do not know well? Then you write a formal invitation. You choose your words with care: “We would like to invite you to a small reception on Friday evening. We would be very pleased if you could join us.”
Notice the difference. The informal one uses “come over.” The formal one uses “we would like to invite you.” Both are kind, but they show respect in different ways.
So before you write, ask yourself one question: who is reading this? Answer that, and you will always pick the right words.
