This Is Now
Every Saturday, Grandpa Ken listens to the football match on his old radio. He does not watch it. He shouts at it.
“Pass the ball!” he shouts. “No, not that way! This way!”
I sit next to him and laugh. “Grandpa, they can’t hear you.”
“They can hear me,” he says. “They are just terrible today.”
The radio man says our team scores a goal. Grandpa jumps up.
“Yes! Now this is better!” he shouts. “This team is much better than last week.”
Two minutes later, the other team scores too. Grandpa sits down.
“Terrible,” he says. “Those players are terrible.”
“But Grandpa,” I say, “two minutes ago they were better than last week.”
He looks at me. “That was two minutes ago,” he says. “This is now.”
I laugh again. The match is fun, but Grandpa is more fun than the match.
