The Squirrel and the Wall
In October, a squirrel comes down from the big tree in Green Park. She finds ten nuts in the grass and puts them under the tree. Then a dog comes. The dog digs twice, and the nuts are gone.
In November, she tries again. She carries twenty nuts into an old flowerpot by a door. It is dry and quiet there. But a woman picks up the flowerpot and takes it into the house. The nuts go too.
In December, the squirrel finds a small hole in a stone wall. She climbs up and looks inside. She puts thirty nuts in the hole. No dog can dig a wall. No woman can carry a wall away.
In January, the snow comes. The park is white and cold, and most animals are hungry. The squirrel sits on her wall and eats.
