The Road to School
Here is a little study of four countries, and of how the children get to school.
In Japan, small children walk together in a group, with no adults. The oldest child walks in front.
In the Netherlands, nearly everybody goes by bike: mothers, fathers, teachers, children. They go in the rain too.
In Bangladesh there are villages where the river is the road. In the wet months the school comes to the children. It is a boat with a classroom inside, and it stops at every house.
In Mongolia, some families live far from the town, so travel takes a long time. Those children ride a horse for an hour.
That is the longest journey here, and it is the one the children like best.
