The Helpful Dog
The dog is watching the boy in the yard. The boy has a broken bicycle.
“I can fix it,” the boy says. He is turning the wheel. The wheel is not turning back. The dog can see the problem. The chain is on the grass.
The boy is looking in his box. He is looking for the right part. The dog has the part. No — the dog is eating the part!
“Where is the bolt?” the boy says. “I can't find it!”
The dog cannot talk. The dog cannot build a bike. But the dog can bring things. The dog drops the bolt at the boy's feet, a little wet.
“Good dog!” the boy says. “Now we can match the chain to the wheel.”
The dog is very proud. The dog forgets that he started it.
