The Band on Mill Street
Every Tuesday, five people meet in the village hall on Mill Street. They are a little better than last year.
Rita can play three notes on the trumpet. They are good notes.
Alfie can’t play the trumpet and he can’t sing, but he can keep time. One, two, three, four.
The man from the shop can play the drum. He has one drum. His sister can play the low notes on the piano, but not the high ones.
The woman who makes the tea can’t play anything. She sits at the back with her cup and listens. Then she says, “That was wrong. Again.”
And she is always right.
Rita can play three notes. Alfie can count. The woman with the tea can’t play a note, but the band can’t play without her.
