One Box and One Lamp
This is my first night in the new apartment. I have one box and one lamp.
I put the lamp on the floor. There is no table yet. There are no chairs.
I walk upstairs. There is a small bathroom up here. There is a toilet and a tiny window. The window looks at the moon.
I walk downstairs again. The box is by the door. I sit next to it.
The apartment is empty. But it is mine. I put the lamp on, and the room is warm and yellow.
“Good night, apartment,” I say. Tomorrow I bring a chair.
