Of Course It Is
Bev: Hiya. I bought this kettle here on Saturday, and I’m afraid it doesn’t work.
Assistant: Oh dear. What’s it doing?
Bev: Nothing, that’s the problem. I plug it in, I press the switch, and nothing happens.
Assistant: Right. Have you got your receipt with you?
Bev: I have, actually. Here you go.
Assistant: Lovely. So it’s only three days old. I’m afraid I can’t give you cash back without the manager, but I can replace it right now.
Bev: I’d rather have a refund, to be honest. I’ve gone off the brand a bit.
Assistant: I completely understand. The thing is, the refund has to go back on your card, and our system’s down this morning.
Bev: Of course it is.
Assistant: I know, I know. Could you possibly pop back this afternoon? It should be working by then.
Bev: I’m afraid I’m in Leeds this afternoon.
Assistant: Ah. Tell you what — would a replacement plus a small gift card sort it out? For your trouble.
Bev: Now that’s more like it.
Assistant: I thought it might be.
