Thursday at Ten
The tenant called the landlord on a Tuesday morning.
“Hi, it’s the flat on Carter Street. The kitchen tap is broken. The water won’t stop running.”
“Right,” the landlord said. “I’m going to send someone this week. Are you home on Thursday?”
“Thursday’s fine. Could you give me a time? I have to work in the afternoon.”
“He’ll come in the morning. Around ten, I think. Is that convenient for you?”
“That works. And one more thing — the heater isn’t connecting to the wall properly. It comes on, then it goes off.”
The landlord was quiet for a moment. “Are you certain it’s the heater and not the switch?”
“I’m certain. I’ve tried both.”
“Okay. I’ll tell him to look at that too. Anything else, or shall we continue with just the two jobs?”
“Just those two. I don’t want to complain too much on one call.”
“You’re not complaining,” the landlord said. “You’re the first tenant who tells me things before they break the whole flat. Thursday at ten.”
“Great. Thanks.”
“No problem. Try not to flood the place before then.”
