Thieves Strike Town-Centre Jewellery Shop
Police are investigating a daring robbery at Hartley’s, a well-known jewellery shop in the centre of Marlow, after thieves broke in during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to the police, the shop’s alarm was ringing at around 3 a.m. when officers arrived. By that time, the criminals had already escaped. They had smashed a side window and taken several gold rings and watches. The total value of the stolen items is still being counted, but it is thought to be very high.
A neighbour, who lives above the shop, said she was woken by a loud noise. “I was sleeping when I heard glass breaking,” she told our reporter. “I looked out of the window, but the street was empty. I didn’t see anyone, so I called the police straight away.”
The police believe at least two people were involved. No weapon was found at the scene, and so far nobody has been hurt. Officers are now studying camera footage from nearby shops, and they have asked anyone with information to come forward.
The owner of Hartley’s, who has run the shop for twenty years, said he was shocked. “We’ve never had any trouble before,” he said. “These are not just things. Some of them belonged to families for generations.”
A police officer said an arrest was likely soon. “We are following several clues,” she added, “and we are confident that the people responsible will be caught.”
