The Visitor in Room 34
(Late at night, at a small hotel in Brighton.)
Ryan: Good evening, reception. Ryan speaking.
Sarah: Hi, it’s Sarah Bell in room 34. There’s a visitor in my room.
Ryan: Oh, I’m sorry. Visitors can’t stay after ten. I’ll come upstairs and ask him to leave.
Sarah: He won’t listen to you.
Ryan: Then I’ll call the police.
Sarah: No, no. He’s quite small.
Ryan: A child? Is it the little boy from room 33?
Sarah: No. He came in through the window.
Ryan: The window? Madam, room 34 is on the third floor.
Sarah: I know.
Ryan: So how… wait. Can he fly?
Sarah: Of course he can fly. He’s a seagull. And he’s eating my sandwich.
Ryan: Ah. Okay, open the window wide and leave the room for a minute.
(One minute later.)
Sarah: He’s gone. With my sandwich.
Ryan: I’m sorry, madam. Welcome to Brighton.
