The Town's First Traffic Lights
The small town of Hartley has new traffic lights. There is one on Main Street, by the shop. It is the first traffic light in the town, and everyone is happy.
The light has three colours. There is red, yellow, and green. When the light is red, cars must stop. When the light is green, cars can go.
For people who walk, there is a small light too. It has a red man and a green man. When the man is green, you can cross the road. When the man is red, you must wait. You must not cross on the red man.
A police officer stands by the light all week. She helps people. “Look up,” she says. “Wait for the green man. Then cross.”
The children like the lights best. They wait for the green man, and then they cross the road in a happy line. The town is safe now, and the cars in this area go well.
