The Man at the Gate
Every morning, the old man stands at his gate. He says hello to everyone.
“Hello!” he says to the children. “Hello!” he says to the postman. He says the same word a hundred times.
In the evening, he stands at the gate again. Now he says goodbye.
“Goodbye! See you tomorrow!”
Yesterday a new neighbor asked him, “Why do you do this?”
The old man smiled. “Hello and goodbye are small words. But they make the day warm.”
