The Easiest Question
It was quiz night at the pub in Galway. Two teams sat on opposite sides of the room. The Lions had won three weeks in a row. The Owls had never won at all.
The quiz host stood up with the last question. The scores were close.
“Final question,” he said. “True or false: a tomato is a fruit.”
The Lions laughed loudly. This was the easiest question of the night. They were the better team, and they knew it.
“False!” the Lions shouted. “A tomato is a vegetable. Everyone knows that.”
The Owls looked at each other for a long moment. Then, very quietly, they wrote “true.”
The host smiled. “The answer is true. A tomato is a fruit.”
The room went silent. The Lions stopped laughing. The Owls had won, on the easiest question of the night.
“How?” said the captain of the Lions. “How did we get THAT one wrong?”
