The Bear Throws It Back
The bear was watching from the trees. On Saturday, the people came to the park with their bats and balls.
A small boy was standing at the plate. He swung carefully, and the ball flew far into the grass.
“Run!” everyone shouted. But the ball rolled near the bear's feet.
The bear could not play baseball. The bear did not know the rules. But the bear knew one thing: when a ball comes to you, you throw it back.
So the bear stood up and threw the ball. It flew high over the field, straight into the boy's hands.
The people went very quiet. The boy looked at the bear. The bear sat down again behind the trees.
“Brilliant,” the boy whispered. “Same time next week?”
