Rice Night
Marcia opens the fridge. Six people are coming at eight o’clock.
Marcia: Andre. Come and look.
Andre: What? It’s a fridge.
Marcia: It’s an empty fridge. There’s milk and half a lemon.
Andre: Okay. Okay. We make soup.
Marcia: From milk and half a lemon?
Andre: From the supermarket. It’s open until nine.
Marcia: On Wednesday it closes at seven.
Andre: …It’s Wednesday.
(Andre opens the cupboard.)
Andre: Rice. A big bag of rice.
Andre: Rice with milk. That’s a dessert in my country. It’s very good.
Marcia: And before the dessert?
Andre: Rice. Hot, with black pepper.
Marcia: So, two rice dishes.
Andre: Three. I can make it cold too.
Marcia: And what do we call this dinner?
Andre: Rice night.
