Orange Flowers
(Two boxes of plates on the kitchen floor. Rosalind's are white. Teddy's have orange flowers on them.)
Rosalind: We can't keep both. There's one cupboard.
Teddy: Right. So we keep the white ones.
Rosalind: Yours have orange flowers.
Teddy: They do.
Rosalind: Big orange flowers.
Teddy: Look, my grandmother gave me those. She ate off them for forty years.
Rosalind: …Okay.
Teddy: And they're not ugly. They've got style.
Rosalind: They've got flowers.
Teddy: Same thing.
(Rosalind picks up a white plate and looks at it.)
Rosalind: Mine came from a supermarket. In a box. Six for ten dollars.
Teddy: So?
Rosalind: So nobody ever ate off mine for forty years.
(The white plates go back in the box.)
Teddy: We're keeping the forks, though. Yours are tiny.
