Nothing to Do Here
In August, Owen and his family took the train to a small farm. The train was slow. Owen looked at his map for two hours.
The farm had one little house, two dogs, and a brown horse. It had no TV.
“There's nothing to do here,” Owen said.
On Monday he was thirsty, and the farmer gave him cold milk in a big cup. On Tuesday he helped to clean the horse. The horse did not look at him.
On Wednesday Owen sat in the grass and sang. The horse walked across the field and put her head on his coat. Owen sang again. The horse did not walk away.
On Friday the family went back to the station.
Owen looked at the field for a long time. “Next August,” he said, “I want to come here for three weeks.”
