Not Today
The family is getting ready. I watch from the door.
Dad is putting bags in the car. Bags mean a day out! I feel happy. I want to go too.
Mom is making sandwiches. Sandwiches mean a long day out! I feel even happier. I sit by her feet and wait.
The girl is putting her shoes on. Shoes mean a ride in the car! This is better and better. I bring my ball. A ball is good for a day out.
Now they are at the door. I am ready. I stand up. I wait for “Come on, boy!”
But Dad looks at me. “Not today,” he says. “We’re going on a plane.”
A plane? I don’t understand planes. I sit down. Half of me is sad.
Then Mom smiles. “The dog comes too,” she says. “He hates the plane, but he hates home even more.”
I run to the car. Best day! Even a plane is better with my family.
