Last Year’s Calendar
Two calendars hang in the kitchen. Halvard’s flatmates use the new one. Halvard uses the old one.
The new calendar is pink, with a photo of mountains. Three things are on it: the dentist on Monday, a festival in August, and somebody’s interview on Thursday.
The old calendar is from last year, and it’s full. In February, Halvard met his girlfriend. In April, they danced in the rain at a festival. In July, they had a holiday on a beach in Croatia. In October, her sister’s wedding: Saturday, twelve o’clock.
“That calendar’s finished,” his flatmate said on Wednesday. “It’s last year. Today’s Wednesday here and Tuesday there.”
“I know,” Halvard said. “But nothing good is written on the new one yet.”
