Five Cakes a Year
A big list is on the fridge. Amy and her dad write all the family birthdays on it.
“Grandma is first,” Amy says. “Her birthday is in February, on the third.”
“Good,” her dad says. “Now me. I am in March.”
Amy writes his name. “Mom is in July. My brother is in September. And me?”
“You are last,” her dad says. “The fifth of November.”
Amy looks at the list. “So we have a cake in February, March, July, September, and November.”
“Yes,” her dad says. “Five cakes a year. This family is very good at birthdays.”
“And very good at cake,” Amy says.
