A Very Good Hole
The young rabbit was hungry. Behind the fence, the garden was full of green leaves.
So the rabbit put its head under the fence and pushed.
The head went under. The body did not.
The rabbit pulled back. Its ears were under the wood. It pulled again. Nothing.
Then it heard feet. Big feet.
A big brown dog put its nose next to the rabbit’s head. Then it began to dig.
The rabbit closed its eyes and hoped.
The dog dug and dug. The dirt went away, and the hole got big.
Then the rabbit’s head was free.
It ran back through the grass to its home under the shed.
The dog put its nose in the hole. It was a very good hole now, but there was no rabbit in it.
