A Small Mix-Up
Mateo had queued at the hotel desk in Cancún for twenty minutes. He’d booked the Luxury Package months ago, and he’d paid a lot of extra money for it.
When he finally reached the front, the clerk, Odalys, typed his name into the computer and frowned.
“I’m sorry, sir,” she said. “I can’t find your reservation.”
“That’s impossible,” Mateo said. “I’ve got the email right here. Luxury Package. A room with an ocean view.”
Odalys typed again. Then she smiled. “Ah, here it is. But there’s been a small mix-up with the rooms.”
“How small?”
“Your ocean-view room is still being cleaned. So for tonight, we’ve moved you to our very best suite instead. The top floor. It’s four times bigger.”
Mateo stared at her. “You’re upgrading me? For free?”
“For free,” Odalys said. “I’m so sorry for the trouble.”
Mateo walked to the elevator, grinning. Behind him, the next guest stepped up to the desk.
“Excuse me,” the man said. “I booked the Luxury Package too. Is there any chance of an upgrade?”
Odalys smiled politely. “Of course, sir. Let me just check for a small mix-up.”
