A Free Apology
Noor walked into the letting agency on Mill Lane. A letting agent looked up from his desk and smiled.
“Good morning. How can I help?”
“I'm Noor. I have an appointment about a flat. I called last week.”
The agent checked his screen. “Ah, yes. I'm so sorry — I've been very busy this morning. I apologize for the wait. Please, sit down.”
Noor sat. “I've already seen the photos online. I'd like to see the flat itself, if that's possible.”
“Of course. The accommodation is lovely — two rooms, near the park.”
The agent paused. “I should tell you, though. Someone else has claimed it. They signed this morning.”
Noor's smile dropped. “This morning? I've had this appointment for a week.”
“I know. I've made a mistake, and I'm sorry.” The agent stood up. “But we have another flat at our other branch. Same price, bigger kitchen. Would you like to see it?”
Noor thought for a moment. “Same price, bigger kitchen, and a free apology. All right. Show me the better flat, then.”
